Messier 27: The Dumbbell Nebula

Submitted by Cykon in the ISSC Discord

Messier 27, the Dumbbell Nebula, photographed by Cykon

Cykon submitted this image of Messier 27, the Dumbbell Nebula, to the ISSC Discord: a planetary nebula formed from a dying star's outer layers, glowing in ionized hydrogen and oxygen roughly 1,360 light-years from Earth. It's one of the brightest planetary nebulae in the sky, and one of the easiest for astrophotographers to find.
